How UntreX works.

Getting started

Create an account with your email, then tap Write a Post to start your first story. There's no required setup — you can write something in under a minute, decide who sees it, and come back to add more later.

Writing a story

The Story Editor supports headings, bold and italic text, lists, and inline photos or video. Long stories can be split into chapters, so a memory that spans months doesn’t have to live in one unbroken block of text.

Anything you start and don't publish is saved automatically to Drafts. Nothing you write is lost if you close the app halfway through.

Privacy and visibility

Every story has its own visibility setting, chosen when you publish it: Private (only you), Friends, Link-only, or Public. You can change a story's visibility at any time from the story itself, and earlier readers won't retroactively lose access to a private story unless you remove it.

Rooms

Rooms are different from your Timeline and from Mood Rooms — they're for conversations meant to be present, not preserved. There are two kinds, each with a different guarantee.

Public Rooms are visible and joinable by any user on UntreX, no invite needed. Everything shared inside — every message, every file — is automatically removed after 24 hours, deleted from every system including the database itself. Nothing is archived, and there's no footprint left to look back on.

Private Rooms are invite-only, opened with a shared link and its passcode. They run fully peer-to-peer, so data travels directly between devices and is never stored on a server. They're end-to-end encrypted, and no trace is left behind for anyone to find.

Vox reactions

Vox lets someone respond to a story with a short voice note instead of a text comment or emoji. Only people with access to the story can leave one, and you can turn Vox off per-story if you’d rather not receive them.

Your timeline

Every story you publish is placed on your personal Timeline in chronological order, based on when the moment happened, not just when you wrote it. You can backdate a story to when the event actually occurred.

Discovery and public stories

Discovery is an entirely opt-in space for reading public stories from other writers. Nothing you write appears there unless you've explicitly set that specific story to Public.

Settings lets you update your profile, change your password, export your data, or delete your account. See our Data Deletion page for exactly what happens and how long it takes.
